I purchased these nesting pads after buying consumable nesting pads and having to constantly throw them away relatively quickly. I was looking for something reusable and easy to clean. I have 8 laying hens (7 more that will start laying in a couple months) and 4 nesting boxes. 3 of the boxes are the roll out ones and one is a traditional flat kind. I really appreciate that these nesting pads are on the thinner side because I can shove them into the roll out boxes and the roll out function still works. I suppose I could cut them to size but the chickens and I don’t care. My chickens aren’t fancy and don’t need super fluffy nesting pads to lay eggs. They just get the job done and go about their day. In terms of shedding, the pads do shed initially out of the package. I just brushed all the edges and in the middle and I haven’t had any more shedding in the boxes after the chickens lay. There is a chemical smell out of the package also but I just left them outside for a day and that went away too. I haven’t had to clean them yet so I can’t speak to how well they hold up. Oh, my chickens took to them right away.
